MAYFIELD, Ohio

Fraud: Aintree Park Drive

A man said May 2 that during the course of three days, he was the victim of a scam in which he transferred $18,000 to an unknown person.

He said he had given remote access to his computer to someone believed to be from an internet security company to clear a virus. That person then sent him to a Bitcoin ATM at a Cleveland Heights store and had him convert currency into Bitcoin.

The incident is under investigation.

Welfare check: Beta Drive

The Holiday Inn staff reported April 26 that a woman had been wandering around the lobby for hours.

Responding officers located the woman, 54. She said she was upset with medical care she had received earlier in the day.

She continued to ramble about different subjects and was subsequently taken to a hospital for a second medical opinion and a mental health evaluation.

Suspicious activity: Wilson Mills Road

Officers responded April 27 to a report of a man soliciting for money in the area near Austin’s Steakhouse. He was located and said he had run out of gas. He was advised of the complaints received and sent on his way.

Trees at the main entrance of the high school were found littered with toilet paper around midnight April 29. Inside the school, officers observed toilet paper and caution tape.

A custodian later confirmed that it was a matter approved by the principal.

Neighbor trouble: Northboro Drive

Officers responded to a man’s complaint of a barking dog at a neighbor’s home April 29, but did not hear any barking upon their check.

A short time later, the owner of the dog reported that the man complains about her dog at its very first bark. She says he sends her text messages about it.

Both those involved were given options and told to respect the other.

Suspicious activity: SOM Center Road

A man was located searching for discarded electronics at the rear of the service department building May 1. Officers advised him that he was trespassing and that he needed permission to take any scrap.

Suspicious activity: Meadowood Drive

Officers checked unsuccessfully May 2 on a report of a man with a hatchet chopping trees near a ravine. The caller said the man had been seen there for months.
